VIII Conference of the Global Network of the WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery

The goal of the VIII Conference is to discuss national and international guidelines for the establishment of policies and practical strategies, with a view to concrete actions by nursing and midwifery professionals at different complexity levels, in the light of the primary health care renewal movement.
During three days, professionals and speakers will discuss the renewal of WHO’s primary health care goal “Primary care, now more than ever”. That is why the central theme of the 2010 Conference will be “Primary Health Care: Many perspectives, one goal”.
We look forward to receive all of you at this singular moment for Brazilian Nursing as well as for health professionals from different areas and realities around the world. |

International Symposium

On November 28th, the Global Network Secretariat organized the International Symposium “Globalization and Social Determinants of Health: implications for the development of human resources and health systems”, with 226 participants from 20 countries. In the year that marked the 60th anniversary of WHO and 30 years since the Declaration of Alma-Ata, the event highlighted the renewed attention attributed to primary health care in the international context. At the end of the Symposium, the institutions represented on this occasion proposed the Ribeirao Preto Commitment to Action in Global Health, the text of which is under assessment by all parties involved.

Launch of the Global Network Secretariat in Brazil

The official launch took place on November 27th of last year. During the ceremony, representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, WHO, PAHO, Sigma Theta Tau, the collaborating centre from Sydney, besides other authorities in the field of health and education, pronounced their wishes of success and highlighted the potential role of the Global Network and its members in the international health context. Two hundred twenty-six participants from 20 countries (Angola, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Mexico, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Peru, Portugal, Switzerland, United States and Venezuela) were the first to watch the Portuguese version of the WHO / NIGH video "Nurses and Midwives: Now More Than Ever for a Healthy World!". |
